How to Feel Luxurious in Any Budget

As someone who is still getting used to the uncertainty of this “New Normal”, I have seen myself having ups and downs caused by spending too much time at home.

Given the current situation, I have to work from home full time, which I am aware makes me an extremely privileged person. Yet that hasn’t avoided my moods from becoming a rollercoaster sometimes.

Living in a small flat in London doesn’t make it any easier. On the positive side, I haven’t had any other choice but to try to be creative when it comes to feeling a bit “Extra” at home.

I have collected a few activities that, on top of their affordable price, give your evenings a luxurious vibe.

A Hot Bath With Salts

There is nothing better to calm your nerves after a stressful day than a tiny pool with hot water that smells like lavender.

I discovered the pleasant effects of this hobby when I was going through my college exams. I remembered that the lavender salts were the cheapest ones I could find at the local supermarket.

As with everything, you can upgrade your made-at-home-spa by adding a fancy “Intergalactic” Bath Bomb from Lush or going for natural oils instead of solid products.

Make the time inside the bath magic by putting on a face mask and scrub your entire body from neck to fingertips.

Stylish Loungewear

Working from home comes with the opportunity to save money in many different areas. I myself haven’t used makeup in weeks (loving the use of face masks by the way) and my budget in eating out is non-existent.

However, I want to feel great at home. I have noticed how using certain clothes lights up my mood instantly, to the extent where some others are almost abandoned at the bottom of the wardrobe for months.

Wearing something comfortable that looks good on you can make a huge difference in the way you look at yourself. Every time you pass through a mirror you can see yourself. If you like what you see, you are going to spend the rest of the day with the knowledge that you are looking great. That piece of information is hiding in the back of your mind creating positive chemical reactions that do make a difference in the way you see yourself.

There are multiple types of bodies and fabrics. I have a few pieces of nightwear and the most uncomfortable piece I have is, to my despair, the most expensive one. Looking back when I saw it for the first time, It looked nice in the photo but a few days later I concluded that it didn’t look bad enough for me to return it to the store (online purchase mistake number 1). I keep it and wear it occasionally with the main purpose of going to sleep.

Your Special Corner

This one is my current saviour. If you have enough rooms at home to make one of them your personal heaven, use it in order to spend the enjoyable times of the day where the only thing that matters is you.

If you don’t have too much space, try moving something in your living room. For example, move the coffee table and place it somewhere else in the room you find nice. For example near a window. Now get a few pillows and create a nice improvised seat. Where you can sit and relax while watching a movie, reading or writing in your journal.

I find it refreshing to relax in a new area, looking through the window and to my living room from a perspective I hadn’t experimented with before.

As I was trying to explain the positive effect this habit has on me, I started wondering if that “Feng Shui” people talk about could be related to the topic. This is what I found:

“Feng shui decorating does not necessarily mean creating a Zen-type home; what feng shui decorating means is that you create an environment that has the best energy to support the specific activity, or activities, intended for that space.” -Rodika Tchi

Does this mean I am a Feng Shui prophet now?

Bubbles and berries

This is one of my favourites. There is not better than finishing my shift, storing my work laptop and walking to my fridge where a bottle of Prosecco and a pack of raspberries are waiting for me.

I love most bubble based cocktails and drinks, but Prosecco has been my favourite during the last couple of weeks.

What a satisfying event, from pouring the drink on my favourite glass and the sour fruits on my coconut bowl to end up sitting in my new “Feng Shui” corner.

A nice Glass and a Nice Bowl

I don’t understand it, but it feels better. Having any drink, from bare sparkling water to wine in a beautifully designed Champagne Flute is the ultimate upgrade to feel like you are living in the Palace of Versailles.

The best part is that you can get both for a very affordable price. If you have something like a TK Maxx or an outlet store in your city, they often have a wide selection of kitchen equipment you can choose from.

How about you? What simple item/habit do you fancy to use at home?
