6 Mind-blowing American Movies You Have Missed

As a big cinephile, I have decided to dedicate some of my posts to talk about great, unpopular movies that I believe people need to watch before they start their next Netflix binge session.

No worries, It’s not my objective to spoil the movie! I promise I only want to give a very short summary of the reasons why I think it’s worth watching.

1. Super Dark Times (2017)

Set in New York in 1996. Two best friends see their friendship compromised after an awful accident leads to secrets, lies, distance and violence.

I was impressed by the quality cast, their brilliant performance and the originality of the story. It’s an honest, realistic tale that proves how a low budget project can create an amazing filmography that offers an intriguing story. All with a brutal, yet unpretentious atmosphere.

2. My Suicide (2009)

Also known as “Archie’s Final Project”.

After watching the trailer for the first time, I had the feeling I was getting close to an average angst teenage movie. At that time, I didn’t even bother to watch it or read reviews.

Just a few months ago, I was able to overhear a to a girl on the bus talking about the said movie (I wasn’t spying on her). She mentioned how much the story meant to her. Apparently, it helped her overcome some issues during her dark highschool years.

I decided to read some other feedback and, finally, I gave it a try.

The main character is an unhappy teenager that records the few days before his suicide as a highschool project. Most of the movie it’s recorded through his camera, which adds some “hipster documentary feeling” to the movie.

Nowadays, “I Am an Archie” is a social media campaign to promote teen suicide awareness.

Bets quote: “I had an old self that I killed. You can kill yourself too but that doesn’t mean you got to stop living. Kill the part that’s all about you and nobody else because that’s the part that makes you want to curl up and die.” Vargus, Archie’s Final Project.

4. Thumper (2017)

A crime/police thriller with a young girl as the main character. Her job is to befriend certain teenagers that happen to be in a secret drug cartel.

To be honest, I find too hard to explain this movie without spoiling you a big part of it.

Basically, a clever plot with a surprising ending. If you want to enjoy an action movie without Tom Cruise, explosions and expensive cars, this one is for you!

5. I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore (2017)

Actually, forget it. You probably didn’t miss this one.

With Elijah Wood and Melani Lynskey as heroes, you have probably haven’t missed this one. Also, what kind of name is that? I can’t ignore how terribly long this title is.

But what is this movie about? IN short, a nursing assistant gets home to the surprise that her house has been burgled. The burglar has stolen her laptop, and if that wasn’t enough, the policemen are blaming her for leaving the door unlocked. Depressed and frustrated, she decides to get back her laptop on her own terms, and her awkward neighbour is ready to help.

One more reason to watch it? This one is probably the only comedy on my list!

6. As You Are (2016)

1990. There is a police investigation, and the main point it’s the relationship between three teenagers. Something happened, but we don’t know what exactly. Even the best prognosticators won’t be able to guess it!

This movie twists your mind all the time. It tricks you to believe that you know what’s going to occur, how the movie it’s going to end.

But, after watching all the credits and looking at the screen for a few extra minutes, I had to accept that I wasn’t even close to guessing it right.

Now, have you watched any of these movies? Would you add any other piece of art?

Thank you for reading and have an amazing day!
