Are You Flat Hunting? Then You Should Consider this 5 Things

The time has come again! We are starting our flat hunting experience and I am going to make a few posts about it, following up with every new thing I learn and realize.

Every time I go through this experience, I learn new tips and tricks about the art of moving flats.

The most important points would be:

1.- The Area

Is it a safe area? Maybe you live in a small and safe city.

If that’s NOT the case, make sure that your new neighbourhood is a decent place to walk around and do your daily life activities with peace.

Some consider a good idea to take a stroll at night around the potential future suburb area a day before signing the contract.

Too many clubs around? You may find that it’s loaded and noisy at night, which is not a problem for those who work night shifts but can be a nightmare for the early birds.

2.- Bills

If you are moving for a few months, you may want to splurge a bit extra for a place with bills included.

It’s always important to estimate the final price of the rent plus the bills. Maybe the rent money is fine, but after adding the bills and extra payments that you need to pay per month, the final price can be slightly high.

3.- Pet Policy

Unfortunately, many landlords don’t approve of having pets in the flat.

Be sure to ask about the pet policy before you welcome your furry friend in your new home.

Even if you don’t have pets, it’s good to know about this information. You will need to tell your friend if her cute chihuahua can spend a couple of evenings at your place!

4.- Supermarkets

We need food, and if you are still not buying your grocery shopping online, you will need to walk to the supermarket to get them.

Having a nearby supermarket is probably not the ultimate reason to move to a new flat, but can add a few extra points.

5.- Central heating?

This is especially important if you live in a very cold city.

Even in the unfortunate scenario where bills are not included, you will be happy that your nest shows off modern central heating when the next Beast From the East attacks again.

5.- Condition?

The area is great, the flat is spacious and the price it’s great.

However, the table looks like it’s going to befall apart as soon as you place a salad bowl. The same goes for the chairs.

When you walk into the kitchen, the oven looks like a bomb has been detonated several times inside. And you are not sure anymore if the other kitchen appliances will work.

Some flats have a slightly discounted price due to some needed renovations that were never fulfilled. The odds of the renovations taking place after you move in will be even lower, so make sure it’s worth the discount!
