The 5 Best Purchases I Have Ever Made

Not everything we do needs to be sad, or deep, or complicated… Once in a while, we make good choices and one of the best things about technology is that we can always share them online in order to help other people make theirs. On the other side, if you accumulate a bunch of items you regret buying, you can also share your thoughts about them. In this post, I will share the best 5 purchases I have ever made.

I love reading reviews and watching videos about items that I need. If I am looking to buy a new toaster, I will read a thousand blogs and reviews before making my last decision. If I want to travel, I will read some travel blogs and do the same before deciding which will be the next city I want to visit.

1. Black Jacket

One of the best items I got was a PU leather jacket, more than 2 years ago on sale. I don´t remember the price, but it was something around £35. Oh, and I also remember I it got it from Mango.

Why is one of the best purchases I have made? It´s black, the perfect colour to combine with almost everything. The quality it´s good. I remember wearing that jacket last year during the winter. Despite looking thin, the material protected me from the wind very well.

Also, after using it a few hundreds of times I started to notice some damaged parts of the jacket (like the end of the sleeves). A friend told me it made it look “vintage”. So now I guess now I have a “vintage” jacket forever.

2. Coffee Machine

A couple of years ago, my partners birthday was coming and I had no idea what to get him. He used to check the coffee machines section in the supermarkets. I got him one, and I can say is one of the best items I could add to my life.

I was getting used to instant coffee, and I stopped buying milk some time ago because I don’t drink it and it always expired on my fridge. But now I enjoy some nice coffees with milk. I enjoy all varieties of coffee drinks a barista could prepare. The best thing about the machine is that you buy the capsules for the drink you fancy (let’s say a Cappuccino). Some of them are powder milk, which doesn’t expire! Isn’t that convenient? I buy the coffee capsules in the box and It can stay in my kitchen for a long period of time. If I wake up tomorrow and I feel like having a cappuccino, I don’t have to buy the milk just for it, what a time!

Nowadays I use the machine more than my partner so I will keep it on this list as if it was for me.

3. Glass Tupperware Containers

I know most people enjoy preparing recipes and cooking. In my case… Well, I do like cooking some nice dish once in a while, but I definitely prefer spending my time doing something else. Since the beginning of January, I have been using these glass containers and I am quite happy with them.

I don’t have to cook every day. Every time I gather the necessary strength, I want to prepare enough food for at least 2 days. I have always hated Tupperware containers. Not sure how to explain it nor the reason for this feeling, but let’s say there is something I don’t like about them. When I bought them, my intention was to save some lunch money.

I was getting pretty comfortable buying my lunch every day at Pret. Now, despite not being extremely expensive, spending money every single day on lunch food was adding up at the end of the month. Saving more is one of the goals I am looking to achieve for this year and I want to be more careful with the amount of food ready to eat that I buy.

Introducing these objects to my life has helped me eating not just more healthy but also to be more organized and responsible when it comes to the food that I buy. It also made me realise that the issue I had with the Tupperware containers was absolutely real.

4. Kindle App

I hate carrying books. I mean, I already carry my diary and notebook, but carrying more books is something else. Some of them can be as big and heavy as a brick. Like I mentioned in a previous post, once you read them, is something else I needed to find space for in my tiny flat. I started reading books in my reader and now I have switched to my phone. Some of the books you can get are really, really cheap. You can even find some for free and finally, all of them are weightless.

Any downsides? Yes, after a few months stuck to the phone, I wanted to reduce the amount of time I spend looking at the screen. Now that my books are in the app, that plan will be difficult to perform.

5. The cheapest watch ever

I have a curse with watches. At some point in my life, all the watches I was buying would break after a few weeks. After finishing college, I bought a nice watch that fitted my style and taste perfectly. The quality was great and lasted for a long time. At some point, the watch started going wrong. It was slower than usual and my first thought was that I needed to change the battery.

Did you know a change of battery for your watch costs around £ 10?  I thought it was fair enough if it was going to make the watch last for another 2 years, but after 1 day the watch was marking a different time again! So I came to the conclusion that there was no point on keep paying for repairs if I didn’t want to end up paying again the same amount I spend on the watch already.

I depend a lot on watches. I like controlling the time a hundred times a day and I love doing it from my wrists, so at the time I felt I needed one and I saw a very cheap watch on Primark, I think it was around £ 7. Despite not expecting much from it, I was confident it would be more durable than that new battery which I previously paid. One thing leads to another and after 9 months I was still enjoying the super cheap watch. Today, now that 11 months have passed after I got it, it works pretty badly. I have to buy a new one (feel free to give me recommendations). But hey, after all, a £7 watch lasted for about a year, that’s pretty amazing!

Let me know which are the best purchases you have ever made in the comments section. Also, if you know about any specific brand that makes nice quality watches, I would be happy to hear about them!

Really? I was a bit unsure about if they really clean the room or just move around randomly. I’ll take notice!

Good post. My best purchase ever would be a treadmill. I used to go to the gym, but I never had the motivation to pack everything and go there. Now I just get on the treadmill for 45 minutes a day, shower and I’m done. It takes way less motivation to actually start, because you don’t need to actually go somewhere and you’re done after less than an hour. Also, as an introvert, after a long day of school/work I don’t really want to be social

      That’s a great idea!
I have to admit it, one of the worst parts of going to the gym is actually all the nuisance of having to prepare the bag and go there. Most days I don’t even go because of that.
After a long day of work, having a treadmill sounds very convenient, I will definitely keep it in mind for a future 🙂

Nice update! I would recommend you the brands Seiko, Longines, Citizen and Fossil when it comes to watches 🙂

Thank you for the recommendations 🙂
I LOVE Fossil’s jewellery, their designs are both classy, pretty and comfortable looking, will check their watches soon.
I have heard good reviews from Seiko and Citizen, but this is the first time I read about Longines, will do some research!

I have a cardholder at home to store the extra cards I almost never use or need.
Never had such a long charging cable, but it would solve a few problems!
