7 Basic Gadgets I Have Stopped Buying (Part 2)

As expected, I have continued adding more items to my “stop buying” list. You will be surprised at how many things you actually don’t need.
A white table with a Versace wallet, a bunch of black pencils, a black keyboard, a phone and two travel size perfums.

1. Kitchen Gadgets

I do not think I can count all the kitchen utensils that exist. There are innumerable tools that marketers try to sell to us every day. and every year they keep creating new ones with innovative functions for us to add them to our collection.

The last one I got was a blender. A few months ago, there was a huge trend with smoothies and portable blenders. Of course, I try to eat healthily and, at the moment, I thought I was going to give the new blender a great use.

I thought I could make myself some smoothies for breakfast every morning. I mean, is there a healthier way to start the day?

Following the trend, I would prepare salad dressings with the same blender too.

However, laziness and lack of time got the worst of me. I ended up using the blender around 6 times. After that, it was another big gadget keeping some space in a very small kitchen.

I know now that, If I don’t usually prepare something without a specific machine, chances are that I won’t start preparing it after I buy it.

2. Cushions

The last couch I had was as full of cushions and, as cute as those were, it was uncomfortable as fuck to sit on it.

They also occupy a load of space when moving flats. I don’t think cushions will be a part of my life anymore.

3. Several toothpaste/deodorants at a time

I am talking about the juicy “3×2” deals we find when we go to the drugstore. I prefer keeping only one piece (2 maximum) of the same product at home.

The worst thing that can happen if I need a second one? Well, I will have to walk 2 minutes to the drugstore and buy another one.

Challenge accepted!

Also, this way I don’t need to think where to store the rest of them, and space is gold!

4. Plants

I know having plants is good for your health, for the environment and for the world’s best sake.

But circumstances exist. My circumstance is that I’m not the biggest plant lover, and plants are one more physical item thing that has to be moved.

Also, they die (or maybe I just suck at taking care of them). Either way, no more plants for me!

5. Decorative Boxes

I have ALWAYS loved boxes with beautiful designs. I would go to a specific shop and spend long periods of time admiring them.

Sometimes, I buy them and bring them home after convincing myself that I needed the box to “organize the flat”.

As if a flat full of stunning boxes was going to help me become an organized person…

6. Different Shower Gels

Because once you get out of the shower, the female/male aroma doesn’t remain on your skin.

We don’t need two different shower gels. We can survive using the same unisex one, preferably a neutral odourless one.

7. Decoration Items

Vases, glass figurines, paintings, etc. Not just because of the waste of space, but because I actually enjoy living in a clear and empty place.

The fewer items my sight has to encounter, the more relaxing that room feels.

Have you decided to get rid/stop buying something? Let me know if I am missing something else and thanks for reading!

    Hi there!
I totally agree with you, specially about cushions, pillows and boxes, they are the worst and they take up so much space…
Anyway, everthing mentioned was really worth mentioning, I like your way of thinking!

      Hi Emma!
Yes, I usually throw away the pillows and then get new ones after moving into the new place.
I am happy you like my post! Thank you for your support, and thank you for taking your time to comment, I really appreciate it 🙂

It feels like consuming things has become a habit, is it?
A lot of people actually get addicted to purchasing new things, so it’s serious. Even the most ‘normal’ of us have to re-train our brains to not consume things we don’t truly need.
    Very useful post!

Right? Buying more things than we need to has become so normal that we often need to voluntary push ourselves to stop it.
Sometimes it’s even hard to tell what we really need.
John, thank you for the unconditional support since the beginning! 🙂
