7 Great Tips to Start Improving Yourself from Today

On my last post, I ranted and ranted again about adulthood. My main conclusion was to declare that adulthood doesn’t imply getting wiser or better, is just about getting older. Getting better and improving depends on your willingness to actually do that and feel better with yourself and with the world that surrounds you. In this post, I put together a few tips you can practise that can help you make a masterpiece out of yourself and feel like you have evolutioned like a Digimon!

Absorb something worth it

Reading can help you get “out of there” with a nice story, But it can also help you learn about every topic you can ever imagine and improve yourself professionally. You can read about psychology, science, self-improvement, success, etc. If you have a future goal, read about people who achieved that goal already. Learn from their mistakes and follow their advice.

Do you plan on writing a book about the most dangerous snakes in the world? There are a few dozens of books talking about it already. And you can watch documentaries too! Absorb information from everywhere, you can find amazing information in documentaries and movies.

Try to avoid the trap of reading the “bestsellers of the moment”. The industry of books, as well as any other industry, is focused on selling and making money. Decide which topics interest you and can contribute to your life.

Start a new hobby

One of the best and easier ways to feel like you are on a new level is to change some hobby. This extends from learning a new language to taking some taxidermy classes, you decide where those extra hours you have every week go.

Getting a new hobby gives you the opportunity to meet new people with the same interest, either online friends or in real life if you attend classes. You never know when will you be able to get to use your new skill!

Write monthly and weekly goals

Writing things down often makes them real and creates a new desire to meet them. If you feel like you have been procrastinating a phone call or a morning in the gym, write it as a weekly goal. You will feel the pressure to do it and once you have done it, you will feel more happy about it.

We love to feel powerful and capable of doing what we propose ourselves to do. Checking at the end of the week/month every goal you wrote will make you see how much in control you are over your life.

Start a journal

I couldn’t leave this one out. You know that I love writing on a journal and the difference shows. Writing everything makes you feel in control over your life and also makes it easier to evaluate situations from different perspectives. Writing something makes you see it a little bit more from the outside, with a neutral point of view, which can guide you to a new level of self-awareness you have not seen before.

Learn from the best

Do you want to be a bestseller author? Read about it and learn how to do it! Many think that choosing a new topic and writing the best book in the word about a topic is enough, but is not! In order to be a best-selling author, you need to know how to sell. Maybe, apart from learning and writing like Shakespeare you also want to take some marketing courses as well!

In conclusion, the best person to tell you how to do something is someone who has mastered the skill and is successful doing that already. Luckily for you, most successful people in the world has published books, recorded interviews and plenty of information about their careers.

On this same section, I am going to include to be careful with how serious you take advice from the next guy

Everyone loves giving their opinion and pretending to know how to do everything, yet they didn’t get there with their own theories.

Julia works as a legal advisor. She is great doing her job. She is also a pro picking cute outfits for the summer and loves spending her free time watching fashion shows. However, she uses terrible earphones. She loves putting the music to its absolute limit in her flat and brings some to the office with the worst isolation possible.

Don’t follow Julia’s advice in earphone brands. You can probably find someone else with more experience in the matter.

Avoid negative people

Sometimes we meet new people. We hang out with them a few time and enjoy their nice company. However, after a few months, you realize they are too negative. They just talk about things that make them unhappy, they badmouth other people behind their backs and seem to only like those topics.

It’s not good for you to spend time or live with negative people. They can be nice and educated, yet they are still toxic. And toxicity is very contagious. Find people that know how to see the best side of life and sees the world from a positive perspective.

Some people justify seeing the negative side of every situation as being “more experienced” or “wiser”. They are not. If you are wise, you will find a way to be happy, and I am pretty sure that positivity is closer to happiness.

If you spend a decent amount of time judging other’s people business, making negative assumptions and only realising the dark side of every situation, don’t be surprised if positive people avoid your company.

Try Challenges

Challenge yourself in the best way you can! If you need some ideas, you can Google “challenges” or be more specific about the type of challenge you want to make.

What about 20 push-ups per day for 30 days? Or maybe you want to try the vegan diet for 2 weeks and see how you feel.

Choose the challenge that makes you feel more enthusiastic and motivated and go for it. It’s nice to have something “going on” every day. It’s also a great way to establish some routines or changes in your diet if you enjoy the results that the challenge is having on you.

Another tip I would suggest: Get your sleep right!

I’ve noticed that when I go to sleep late and wake up late the day is just trash, very unproductive, lazy, barely do anything worth. Today is being like that. From now on I will try to sleep “the right way” and I’m sure this will catapult my personal results, as I’ve already seen how productive I am when I have a good night of sleep and start my day waking up early, I just need to be constant and do it everyday 😉
