5 Agonizing Movies You Should Watch On A Terrible Day
I don’t think people talks enough about this type of movies. The ones that can serve you as therapy after a really bad day. I call them agonizing movies are often painful to watch, and not because they have a sad ending.
But, what makes them so unique? These movies know how to truly get to you from almost the beginning. They make you feel nervous, uncomfortable, tense during the whole movie.
Warning! These are not your date night movies. These are NOT to watch with your friends on a boring Saturday evening. Mmm…what else? Okay, these films are not to watch before going to sleep after a nice day.
Despite the fact that all of them are worth watching, but you may want to keep them in a closet, waiting for a dark day to give them a chance. Did you have a huge argument with your boss/coworker/friend and you can’t stop thinking about it? Best time to watch the movie! You failed an exam you had been studying for two months? They’re all yours!
1. Loveless (2017) Russia
A Cannes festival winner!
A child disappears after seeing his parents having a nasty argument. The two parents are in the middle of an ugly divorce. The divorce arenas together with their willingness to move on with their lives result in the vanishing of their child and a painful quest.
2.Tribe (2014) Ukraine
This one is brutal.
A teenage boy arrives at a boarding school for the deaf. Trying to fit in, he gets involved in illegal trades, love and unstable dynamics.
Don’t expect much subtitles or voice over. As the trailer says, “Love, Pain, Sadness and Hate need no translation”.
3. The Class (2007) Estonia
The title of this movie must be very SEO friendly for cinematic trends because there are at lear 4 movies with the same name.
The one I am talking about is the Estonian one, from 2007. A story about a class, bullying, and a guy that decides to leave his comfort zone in order to help his classmate.
4. Dogtooth (2009) Greek
Greek movies have something distinctive. When I am looking for a new Greek movie, I know what I am looking for. The vibe, the conversations and the performance create a whole different cinematic experience.
In Dogtooth, a middle-class family educate their children in their own, unique way, which includes making their family house their whole world. As the children grow, they start developing a fierce curiosity about the outside world.
5. Sun Choke (2015) USA
A girl is raised exclusively at home by a woman who submits her to strange exercises in order to improve her health conditions.
This is my selection. Have you watched any of them? If you have, what do you think? Feel free to mention more movies that I should include in my Dark List.

I would like to say that I have watched most of the movies you mentioned here (Loveless, Klass, Dogtooth and Tribe) and they are absolutely amazing. They are sometimes hysterical, sometimes shockingly intense, but they really know how to make an impact, and that is why they are so great. I love them!

Hi there! I have seen some of these movies (like Dogtooth and Loveless) and they are really great and complex, and they have a hauntingly beautiful cinematography. Moreover editing, music and acting are all top class. They are unforgettable experiences. I will watch the other ones for sure
I also liked a lot your previous posts, where you talked about minimalism.
Keep going!

Hello! Don’t watch them all at once! (and if you do, prepare yourself mentally).
I am glad you are liking the blog so far, I am thinking about adding new sections, but it will take a while, thanks for the support! 🙂
